Boxer Dean Clancy in Olympic action today

Sligo’s Dean Clancy will be the first Irish boxer in action at the Paris Olympics when he steps into the ring on Saturday afternoon.

Clancy, 23, who trains out of the Sean McDermott gym in Manorhamilton, takes on the Jordanian fighter Obada Al-Kasbeh in the preliminary round of the men’s 63.5kg competition (light welterweight).

Al Kasbeh is competing at his second Olympics having previously boxed in Rio in 2016.

The fighters are due in the ring at 4:22pm Irish time – and you can watch it live via the RTÉ player here.

The winner of Saturday’s bout will face a last 16 contest on Monday with Tokyo silver medallist and one of the gold medal favourites in Paris, Sofiane Oumiha (France).
