Sligo swimmer Mona McSharry safely negotiated the heats of the women’s 100 metres breaststroke at the Olympics in Paris on Sunday morning by finishing second in Heat 5 in a time of 1:05.74.
It’s her second fastest swim ever for the distance, just outside her Irish record of 1:05.55.
McSharry qualifies third fastest overall from Sunday’s five first round heats – and will be in confident form for Sunday evening’s semi-finals.
China’s Quintang Tang, the current world champion in this discipliene, won the heat in 1:05.63.
The semi-final heats take place on Sunday evening at 8:10pm.
