“I’m still that little girl from Sligo” – Mona McSharry savours Olympic bronze



An emotional Mona McSharry said she raced her heart out to win Olympic bronze for Ireland in Monday night’s final of the women’s 100 metres breaststroke in Paris.

The medal is Ireland’s first of these Games.

She told reporters after the final that ‘it was not a perfect race’ – revealing that her goggles had filled up with water as soon as she dived into the pool at the start of the race.
