Sligo University Hospital among most overcrowded in July

Sligo University Hospital was among the most overcrowded facilities in Ireland in July.

In a statement, the INMO has labelled the situation as “worrying” and say it is “an indicator for what we can expect for the remainder of 2024 unless meaningful action is taken by the HSE and individual hospital groups.”

Figures released today by the INMO show that a total of 851 people waited for a bed at Sligo over the course of the month.

It makes it the fourth most overcrowded hospital in Ireland for July but it also reflects an increase compared to the 615 people who were waiting in July 2023.

Figures have also increased at Letterkenny University Hospital where 295 people waited for a bed in July of this year, reflecting an increase of last year’s figure of 272.

Nationally, University Hospital Limerick was the most overcrowded hospital with 2,255 patients waiting on trolleys, followed by Galway on 1,025, 999 in Cork and St. Vincent’s University Hospital rounding off the top five on 537.
