Sligo Rovers women will try to put a difficult SSE Airtricity Premier Division campaign to date behind them this Saturday when they play Terenue Rangers in the opening round of the

Tommy Hewitts side are currently bottom of the league title and are still looking for their first competitive win across all competitions this year.

They’ve also recently lost their leading goalscorer for the past two seasons, Buncrana native Emma Doherty, who has joined Galway Utd.

Rovers are likely to be without team captain Muireann Devaney this weekend – as she is preparing for Sunday’s All-Ireland gaelic football final with Leitrim LGFA at Croke Park.

However, the return of defender Yvonne Hedigan to action in last weekend’s 1-0 league defeat against Bohemians after a lengthy injury lay-off, was a timely boost for the team.

Saturday’s opponents Terenure lifted the women’s FAI Amateur Cup title last weekend with a 2-1 victory against Whitehall Rangers.
