There was success for Tír Chonaill AC athletes at the National Masters and Juniors, which took place in Tullamore over the weekend.
In the Masters, there was gold medals for Martin Cunningham in the 1.500m and Tom Mc Kelvey, in both the Triple and Long Jump. McKelvey set a national record in the long jump, with 5.61m.
Shane Toolan took silvers in the 200m and 100m and set PBs in the process ahead of the European Championships in Gothenburg.
There was also a Bronze Medal for John Cannon in the 800m.
At Junior level, Fintan Dewhirst smashed a 37 year old championship record in the 400m hurdles, with at time of 51.54. Fintan is in the final preparation stages for the World Juniors in Peru later in August.
Ava Anderson took a PB in the Shot while winning silver, and her brother Alex got onto the podium with a bronze performance in the Weight for Distance.
National U18 Triple Jump champion Jamie Kennedy from Inver moved up to the Junior ranks and finished 4th.
Fellow Tir Chonaill AC member Kelly McGrory is preparing for the women’s 4x400m relay at the Olympics, with the heats for that taking place later this week.
