Donegal’s Mark English ran a fine men’s 800 metres heat at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday morning to qualify for the semi-finals.
Running in a fast Heat 2, the Letterkenny doctor was prominent from the gun and finished strongly to take second in a time of 1:45:15.

Just three runners qualify automatically from each heat – so it was an impressive run by the Finn Valley clubman, who is competing in his third Olympic games.
The men’s 800 metres semi-final take place on Friday morning (10:30am).
