Sligo ATU Students Union is encouraging people who may have a spare room to consider renting it out to a student.
The scheme allows people who let a spare room to students to earn up to €14,000 a year Tax Free.
It’s also said to be very flexible, with it being possible to opt for 5 or 7 day weekly lettings, and it is also available to council tenants as well as homeowners.
Local Labour Cllr Nessa Cosgrove is echoing the calls, describing the scheme as a good stopgap in alleviating what is a major student accommodation crisis here:
