Mona McSharry to be Ireland flagbearer at Olympics Closing Ceremony



Sligo’s Olympic bronze medallist Mona McSharry will be one of Team Ireland’s two flagbearers for the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Sunday night.

McSharry and double medallist Daniel Wiffen from Armagh, won won gold and bronze in the pool, will jointly carry the Irish tricolour during the ceremony at the Stade de France.

McSharry, who won the first medal of these Games for Team Ireland said: “I was so shocked when they selected me among so many amazing athletes who competed at the Games.

“I am so excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity to be one of the Flagbearers for Ireland. This is a great way to close out an incredible Olympic Games.”

The Closing Ceremony will be televised live on RTÉ 2 on Sunday night.
