The current levels of medical waiting lists in the north west continue to exceed their targets.
New waiting list figures for Ireland’s hospitals in July published by the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) do show a decrease on June’s numbers, with over 4,000 people on some sort of public hospital waiting list.
Sligo University Hospital saw 2,450 cases throughout the month, 1,455 patients more than the facility’s intended target of 995.
Similarly, Letterkenny University Hospital exceeded its target for the month, with 1,599 patients recorded there which is 775 than the targeted 826.
The Department of Health noted the new figures show that there have been significant reductions in the number of patients waiting longest.
Nationally, there has been a close to 3o per cent reduction in the total number of patients waiting over 18 months since this time last year.
