Three “neglected” donkeys rescued in Leitrim

Leitrim Animal Welfare and Hungry Horse Outside has carried out a joint-rescue of three “neglected” donkeys from the wild.

In a post on social media, Leitrim Animal Welfare say that, they rescued the donkeys who were in poor condition and suffering from overgrown hooves.

The animals had no access to shelter and as such their hooves had not been maintained and they were malnourished.

Unlike horses, donkeys have feet adapted for dry, stony environments. In lush, wet pastures like those in Ireland, their feet can become soft, leading to painful foot diseases.
