Rock armour protection now urgently needed at Strandhill

It’s thought that the installation of rock armour at Strandhill to combat coastal erosion is now an urgent matter.

A motion will be brought before the next meeting of Sligo County Council in September in an effort to secure funding to get the relevant structures in place.

Locals have recently taken to social media to show parts of the path on the beach front falling away due to the erosion.

Mayor of Sligo, Tom MacSharry, says that given rock armour is already in place in other coastal areas in the county, everything must now be done to secure the same for Strandhill.
