Deadline for Fine Gael election nominations closes today

Nikki Bradley has been confirmed as the sole female Fine Gael candidate to contest the next General Election in the Sligo-Leitrim and Donegal constituencies.

The deadline for nominations is 5pm this evening with a number of candidates putting their names forward.

Ms Bradley was recently appointed to the Seanad by Taoiseach Simon Harris.

The disability rights activist replaced Regina Doherty, who was elected to the European Parliament in June.

She has survived multiple surgeries, including a tumour removal, two hip replacements, a femur repair and an amputation.

Senator Bradley is joined on the ticket by John McNulty and sitting councillor Jimmy Kavanagh.

Fine Gael will look to win at least one seat in Donegal following the departure of Deputy Joe McHugh.

The selection convention takes place in Donegal on Monday, August 26th.

In Sligo-Leitrim, the three confirmed candidates are all male.

Sitting TD Frank Feighan will look to retain his seat won in 2020.

He’s joined by Councillor Thomas Walsh, who contested the 2020 General Election and former Minister of State John Perry, who announced his intention to run a few weeks ago.

The Sligo-Leitrim selection convention takes place on Sunday, September 1st.
