Leitrim win U16 Fr Manning Cup

Leitrim under-16 gaelic footballers secured the Fr Manning Cup for 2024 on Saturday with a 2-12 to 2-9 win against Galway City/West, at Glennon Bros Pearse Park in Longford.

The winners reached the final earlier this month with a one-point semi-final win over Kerry South.

In Saturday’s final, goals from Jack Moolick in the first half, and Sean Gaffney in the second, helped pave the way for this victory.

Leitirm led 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval but Galway had wiped that advantage out within seven minutes of the second half as they led by 2-6 to 1-8.

However, Leitrim responded with Gaffney’s second-half goal and managed to eventually see the game out with a three-point victory.

Aidan Rooney’s Sligo U16s meanwhile won the Manning Shield on Saturday with victory over Cork South in Caherlohan, Co Clare.
