Big number of corncrake territories in Donegal



Donegal is still one of three counties which has the highest number of corncrake territories in Ireland.

 

According to new data from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the biggest amount of corncrake territories have been recorded in Ireland for 25 years.

 

There were 233 corncrake territories recorded this year, representing a 45% increase since 2018.
Its distinctive call was once a common feature in the Irish countryside.

 

Most of the territories recorded in this year’s NPWS survey were in the core breeding areas of Donegal, Mayo and Galway.
