Wilson Waweru wins League of Ireland July Player of the Month award

Sligo Rovers striker Wilson Waweru has won the SSE Airtricity and Soccer Writers Ireland League of Ireland Player of the Month award for July.

It’s been a fantastic few weeks for the Rovers striker, who scored five goals across the month, including a hat trick in the FAI Cup against Cobh Wanderers, and other goals in the wins against Bohemians, and his former club Galway United.

His tally for the season now stands at 8 goals in all competitions.

Waweru saw off competition from Bohemians’ Dayle Rooney, Kameron Ledwidge of Shelbourne, Drogheda striker Douglas James-Taylor, Cork City’s Cathal O’Sullivan, and his own team-mate, Ollie Denham, who finished second in the poll.

Speaking to Ocean FM Sport, the in-form striker said it was a big personal achievement for him to win the award.
