No dog fouling fines handed out in Sligo, Leitrim or Donegal last year

It’s emerged that no dog fouling fines were handed out in Sligo, Leitrim or Donegal last year.

New figures show that just 46 fines were issued nationwide in 2023.

In a survey of those with visual impairments carried out by Vision Ireland, over a third of respondents said that they had been personally impacted by dog waste in public spaces, such as footpaths.

Meanwhile, only two fines were issued by Leitrim County Council to motorists who illegally parked on footpaths last year – one of the lowest numbers in the country.

This compares with 533 fines issued in Donegal and 67 in Sligo for the same offence in 2023.
