One of the three candidates contesting the upcoming Donegal Fine Gael selection convention has pulled out of the race.
Sitting Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh was initially selected to go forward, however, it has emerged he will now not be doing so.
That leaves two remaining candidates, John McNulty and Senator Nikki Bradley to contest the party’s selection convention.
The Donegal Fine Gael convention takes place on Monday, August 26th.
In a statement issued to Ocean FM News, Councillor Kavanagh confirmed that he would not be contesting the convention.
“I would like to sincerely thank all the people who nominated me for selection, the support shown to me by the local team and the many people who messaged and called me offering support, has been humbling, inspiring and greatly appreciated.”
He continues by saying he would like to “wish the remaining candidates the best of luck, and I look forward to continuing to work hard on Donegal County Council for the people of this municipal area and the great county of Donegal.”
