Just days after breaking the world record for the men’s over-80s 200 metres, Strandhill’s John McDermott has added another gold medal to his impressive collection at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sweden.
McDermott won the men’s 400m final on Friday, in a time of 1:11.50 to take gold.
This followed on from this world record run for the men’s 200m which saw him set a new world best of 36.06 seconds.
McDermott, who’s a native of Boyle in county Roscommon, has been one of Ireland’s most impressive masters athletes at international level in recent years, winning a host of european and world titles.
The 2024 World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg conclude this weekend.
