CAB investigating 30 targets in north west

It’s emerged that there are over 30 targets in the north west being investigated by the Criminal Assets Bureau.

A target for CAB can be an individual, a family or a crime network involving many people.

The latest figures reflect the number of targets up to the end of last May.

Figures published in the Irish Independent show that there are 25 targets in the Donegal Garda division under investigation.

The figure in Sligo-Leitrim is lower, however, where 10 targets have been confirmed.

Roscommon-Longford has one of the highest figures nationally with 81 while Mayo has recorded the lowest figure nationally with just 3.

The bureau say targets are identified in a number of ways which include its own intelligence, information from specialist garda units, the network of more than 500 garda divisional profilers nationwide and “good citizen reports” which are described as anonymous tip-offs from the public.
