Sligo champions make winning start to title defence



Coolera/Strandhill, the reigning Sligo Homeland senior men’s gaelic football champions, made a winning star to the defence of their county title on Saturday evening with a comprehensive 1-10 to 0-4 win over Easkey in their opening Group 1 game, played at Tourlestrane.

Coolera are in a five-team Group 1, which also includes, Calry/St Josephs, Shamrock Gaels and Tubbercurry.

Just two teams will qualify from the Group 1 round-robin phase for the county semi-finals.

Sunday’s Group 2 fixture between Curry and Drumcliffe/Rosses Point (2pm) has been moved to Cloonacool as the original venue, Keash, is waterlogged.
