Claims Abtran workers could face disciplinary measures if industrial action continues

Workers at Abtran claim that they could face potential disciplinary measures if they proceed with planned industrial action.

Earlier this month, members of the Independent Workers Union voted overwhelmingly in favour of undertaking industrial action as they look for better pay and conditions.

That industrial action began recently on a minor scale, with a series of email pickets marking the start of action being taken by workers.

It’s now claimed that workers were told in “informal meetings” that they could face disciplinary action should this continue.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Alexander Homits of the IWU says the demands of the workers are not unreasonable.

In statements issued previously, Abtran say they are a responsible and caring employer, with an overall commitment to investing in people, and with a positive and supportive environment for everyone throughout their organisation.

They also say that it is their policy at all times to engage directly and collaboratively with all of their colleagues and that they have clearly defined programmes in place which underpin this engagement.
