It’s been confirmed that there were several casualties during the Annual Warriors Run in Sligo at the weekend.
The event took place in Strandhill on Saturday but the weather and underfoot conditions were said to be far from ideal for everyone involved.
In a statement, Sligo Civil Defence say that the event is always a challenge with so many moving parts, including 30 volunteers, 8 vehicles, and a medical tent all working together on the day.
Unfortunately, there were several casualties throughout the day, some of which were quite serious and required hospital admission.
However, all were treated expertly by highly trained volunteers.
This event was said to truly put all the skills learned in the classroom to the test as emergency services encountered a wide variety of different types of casualties.
All involved, including Roscommon Civil Defence, Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue and the National Ambulance Service along with the staff at Sligo University Hospital have been commended for their assistance on the day.
Organisers say that it was a massive undertaking that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of everyone involved.
