North West counties among worst affected by pub closures

New figures have shown that a significant number of pubs in the North West are among almost 2,000 that have closed in Ireland since 2005.

According to new research carried out by the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland shows that in that timeframe, 28.6% of pubs closed in Leitrim, with 26.3% closing their doors in Donegal.

Limerick, Cork and Roscommon were the counties worst affected, while an average of 114 pubs around the country are closing each year.

Former President of the Restaurants Association, Anthony Gray, feels the blame lies with the Government.
