Leitrim Doctor says there are mounting challenges for GP’s

There are many people experiencing difficulties when it comes to getting an appointment with a GP in the North West.

Those that may have moved into a new area are under pressure to find a GP that can take them on in the first place while existing patients are sometimes left waiting a considerable period for a consultation with their GP.

A recent report claims that no county in the North West has a satisfactory amount of GPs, in line with the World Health Organisation’s standards of care.

It’s thought there are 97 GPs in Sligo, 68 were recorded in Leitrim, while in Donegal, the figure was 95.

Dr. Alan Loftus runs a GP practice in Drumshanbo and earlier joined John Lynch to discuss the shortage of GP’s.
