Sligo University Hospital the second most overcrowded in Ireland today

Sligo University Hospital is the second most overcrowded hospital in Ireland this morning.

The figures have been released by the INMO this morning.

According to the latest figures, there were 36 people waiting for a bed in Sligo.

Sligo is second only to University Hospital Limerick this morning, where 52 people are awaiting admission.

Cork University Hospital was the third busiest facility, where 21 people are waiting for a bed today.

The INMO have also released figures examining trolley statistics for the month of August. Across the North West’s two main hospitals, there were 1,063 people on trolleys over the course of the last month.

663 of those were in Sligo University Hospital, with the remaining 409 in Letterkenny.

Despite hospitals in the North West consistently among the most overcrowded hospitals in the country this year, August’s monthly figures are down from the same time last year.

August 2023 saw 737 people awaiting admission in Sligo, while there were 539 on trolleys in Letterkenny.

Overall, there has been a 19% decrease in patients on trolleys in hospitals all around the country when comparing August 2024 to August 2023.
