Sligo Rovers go third after 2-0 win

Sligo Rovers bounced back from their 7-0 thrashing by Drogheda Utd last weekend, to beat Waterford FC 2-0 in a much-improved display on Saturday night at the Showgrounds.

Goals from Wilson Waweru in the first half, and Simon Power in the second, propelled John Russell’s side up to third in the table.

Russell was back on the touchline for the home side having completed a three-game ban for his red card at the end of the St Pat’s league game in Dublin earlier this month.

He spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Odhrán Keating after the game:

Saturday’s victory moves Rovers onto 43 points and they go above Galway United and into third in the table.
