Sligo’s Martin Gordon into Paralympic final

Sligo paracyclist Martin Gordon and his tandem rider Eoin Mullen have comfortably qualified for the final of the men’s B 1000m time-trial at the Paris Paralympics following Sunday morning’s qualifying sesson.

Gordon was fifth quickest overall, clocking a new Irish record time of 1:01.58.

With only six tandem bikes to qualify for Sunday afternoon’s medal races, it was an impressive display by the Hazelwood native, who’s competing at his second Paralympic Games.

The final will take place in the velodrome at 12:51pm Irish time.

Gordon finished  fifth in this event, his strongest Paralympic discipline, at the Tokyo Games three years ago.
