The Diocese of Raphoe has released a statement where they acknowledge the recent report into abuse at religious run schools.
A statutory inquiry has been ordered after almost 2 thousand 400 allegations involving 8 hundred and 84 alleged abusers were made to a scoping inquiry, which included over 300 schools spanning a 30 year period.
The statement highlights the “dismay” and “disgust” shared by everyone who read the report, and has welcomed the news that the situation will be investigated further.
It went on to say that, “For its part, the Diocese of Raphoe will provide cooperation to the Commission (of Investigation) should any of its schools be included.”
The statement said that thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the report and that “it is harrowing to examine the failures that have marked us, but shedding light on these experiences provides a pathway to healing, and ensures that we be vigilant in preventing anything similar in the future.”
