Local calls for seizure of church assets over school abuse allegations



Calls have been made from Sligo for church assets to be seized and be put towards a redress scheme for the survivors of reported historic sexual abuse at a number of religious schools.

 

A scoping inquiry report, published yesterday, included St. John’s National School in Sligo, which had 20 allegations with 10 alleged abusers while De La Salle National School in Manorhamilton is also named in the report with two allegations and one alleged abuser.

 

Scoil Ursula in Sligo is also included with one allegation and one alleged abuser.

 

A Commission of Investigation has been announced, but a redress scheme recommended in the report has not been decided upon.
