GAA’s McKenna Cup & Connacht FBD suspended for 2025

The GAA has opted to suspend all pre-season competitions for the 2025 season, which means there will be no Dr McKenna Cup in Ulster or Connacht FBD in Connacht in the New Year.

The decisions were made at Saturday’s meeting of the GAA’s Central Council.

Their removal is a trial period – after which a review will be carried out to determine whether the pre-season competitions should be cut from the schedule permanently.

Saturday’s meeting also decided to leave the format of the intercounty football championship unchanged for next year.

Any changes to the 2026 football championship will be voted on at Annual Congress next February.
