Injured woman airlifted from Errigal Mountain

A woman has been airlifted from Errigal Mountain after sustaining a lower leg injury.

The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon with a multi agency operation launched, including Rescue 118 being tasked from Sligo.

Shortly after 12.30pm yesterday afternoon, Donegal Mountain Rescue were tasked by the National Ambulance Service to assist a female who had fallen and sustained a lower leg injury on Errigal Mountain.

When the team arrived at the Errigal Carpark, Rescue 118 was also on scene along with the Bunbeg Coast Guard.

As the weather conditions worsened, Rescue 118 lowered the paramedic to below the casualty, who made his way up with the Coast Guard to the casualty’s location.

Rescue 118 then waited while the paramedic stabilised the casualty.

After several attempts, the casualty was successfully moved to a better location, winched up and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for further treatment.

The operation concluded at around 3.30pm.
