Search resumes for Arlene Arkinson’s remains in Donegal

Searches are resuming in Donegal this morning for the remains of Tyrone girl Arlene Arkinson who was last seen 30 years ago.

The 15 year old went missing after a night out at a disco in Bundoran, Co Donegal, on 13 August 1994.

Arlene’s body has never been found, despite extensive searches.

A Garda search is currently being conducted in the Glenfin area of Donegal.

It began yesterday and teams are expected back on site to continue the search to today.

The teenager from Castlederg, Co Tyrone was last seen in a car driven by convicted murderer and rapist Robert Howard.

A 14-year inquest into the death of the teenager that ended in July 2021 found that on the balance of probabilities Robert Howard was responsible for the death of Arlene.

Howard was charged with Arlene’s murder in 2002, but acquitted in 2005.

Several searches have been carried out in the past for the remains of Arlene Arkinson.

A major search took place in May of this year in the Castlefin area but nothing was found.

Gardai have confirmed that searches did take place yesterday and that no further information was available at this stage.
