‘Army snipers still needed’ as local deer cull deemed not enough



It’s thought that a record deer cull in the North West doesn’t go far enough.

 

Sligo had 1723 wild deer culled in a 12 month period up to February 28th last year, up 54% from the previous year.

 

Just over 2,700 deer were culled in Donegal over the same period and a further 549 in Leitrim.

 

Independent Cllr Michael McClafferty has previously called for army snipers to be drafted into Donegal to deal with the problem.

 

He’s adamant that it remains very much an emergency situation:
