Sligo beaten by Armagh in Challenge Cup final

There was no joy for Sligo masters gaelic footballers in Saturday’s All-Ireland Challenge Cup final in Drumlish, as Armagh ran out deserved 2-11 to 1-9 winners in an entertaining final, played at the home of Fr Manning Gaels in Longford.

Sligo trailed by six points at half-time (1-8 to 0-9) and while Tony Taylor’s second half penalty gave the Yeats men fresh hope, Armagh in the end had enough to hold on for the victory.

This is just Armagh’s second year to contest the All-Ireland Masters football championship – and it has yielded some silverware.
