Ballinacarrow safety measures “a box-ticking exercise”, Dáil hears

A recent public consultation over proposed safety measures for Ballinacarrow has been described as a box ticking exercise.

The issue was raised in the Dail last evening by Sligo Leitrim Independent TD Marian Harkin, who also highlighted that the road safety allocation for the entire County of Sligo this year was a great deal less than the cost of the Leinster House bicycle shelter.

Despite the community of Ballinacarrow voicing their concerns over a proposed pedestrian crossing on an adjoining road off the N17, the project is going ahead regardless.

Deputy Harkin has been questioning the point of having the consultation in the first place.

While responding, Minister Pascal Donohoe didn’t have the answers.
