Letterkenny University Hospital suffers covid outbreaks amid overcrowding

The HSE has released a statement over long wait times in the emergency department at Letterkenny University Hospital.

According to figures, 198 attended the emergency department yesterday, with similar numbers seen again today.

Meanwhile there are currently two wards in LUH with Covid outbreaks, which has resulted in restrictions on visits to the respective wards.

The HSE said that all available beds are currently in use, and that every effort is being made to discharge patients who are ready to go home so that beds will become available for patients who need to be admitted, at the earliest opportunity.

They concluded by saying “we continue to request that people consider other options for non-emergency care such as Out of Hours GP and pharmacies before attending an ED. Please do not visit the hospital if you have any Respiratory symptoms or have had contact with someone who has COVID-19.”
