A number of crimes were found to be on the rise in the North West in the second quarter of 2024.
The figures have been released by the Central Statistics Office today.
According to the figures published today, fraud, deception and related offences were among the most frequent crimes committed in the North West by the end of quarter 2.
There was a 33% increase within the first six months of this year, with 577 offences in that time.
There was also a significant amount of driving offences committed in the North West, with a total of 540 people charged for driving under the influence. 351 of these were for driving under the influence of alcohol, with the remaining 189 for driving under the influence of drugs.
Those figures represent a 66% increase in people caught driving after taking drugs, with a 4% rise in people caught drink driving.
Burglary and related offences also rose by 4% with theft and related offences going up by 6%. Robbery, extortion and hijacking offences saw a small increase of 2%.
There were some decreases in the North West, however, with charges for weapons and explosives down 7%, and offences against Government, Justice Procedures and Organisations of Crime dropping by 12%.
