Fáilte Ireland publish most popular tourism spots in North West



The Model Arts Centre in Sligo, the Shed Gin Distillery in Leitrim and Donegal Castle were the most popular tourist attractions in the North West last year.

A new survey from Fáilte Ireland has been examining how many people visited tourist attractions in 2023.

In Sligo, over 55,000 people passed through the doors of the Model Arts Centre last year. The Model, which is home to the Niland Art Collection, was the most popular spot for visitors in Sligo throughout 2023.

This was followed by the Coleman Irish Music Centre, with almost 49,000, and Sligo Abbey, which had over 39,000 visitors.

The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo was the busiest place in Leitrim last year, with 50,000 people seeing what was on offer there.

Parkes Castle, which sits on the Leitrim/Sligo border, was next, with over 17,000 visitors, followed by St George’s Heritage Centre in Carrick on Shannon, with over 2,000.

Donegal Castle took the top spot in Donegal, recording over 63,000 visitors last year.

The Glencolumbkille Folk Village Museum and Heritage Centre was a close second, with almost 62,000.

Tropical World in Letterkenny completes the top three, hosting 45,000 visitors throughout 2023.
