There has been an increase in new car sales across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal for 2024, however there has been a major decline in the registration of electric cars.
The figures were released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, with the report ranging from January to October of this year.
Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have each seen an increase in new car registrations in comparison to the end of October 2023.
Donegal have registered the highest number of new vehicles among the three counties, almost three thousand new vehicles have been registered, which is up close to seven per cent from last year’s figure.
Leitrim registered the smallest number of new cars in the country but saw the biggest increase of eight and a half per cent.
Sligo saw over one thousand new cars registered, and an increase of almost six per cent compared to this time last year.
However, Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim have each seen a drop in the registration of electric vehicles.
Donegal have seen a decline of over 30 per cent despite selling over two hundred electric vehicles. Sligo have sold under one hundred, with a decrease of almost fifty per cent. Leitrim sold thirty-two electric cars, with a fall of close to forty-five per cent.
Across Ireland, new car registrations increased by almost ten per cent. Meanwhile, new electric car registrations have fallen by over twelve per cent.
