Boyle’s James Bolger and Donegal Town’s Jack Keaney were both part of the Drogheda United FAI Cup winning squad at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday.
The Louth club enjoyed a 2-0 final success over Derry City in front of a crowd of 38,723 spectators.
Bolger played the full 90 minutes in the Drogs defence while Keaney was an unused substitute.
It’s a first-ever FAI Cup winners medal for both players – and just the second FAI Cup success for Drogheda Utd FC.
The victory also ensures Drogheda of European football (Europa League) next season.
Derry’s defeat means they miss out on European football altogether next season, given that they finished fourth in the league table behind winners Shelbourne, runners-up Shamrock Rovers and third-placed St Patrick’s Athletic.
Drogheda, meanwhile, still have to prepare for a promotion-relegation play-off final against Bray Wanderers of the First Division next weekend.
