Sligo pro surfer Gearóid McDaid set a new landmark in Irish surfing on Saturday by winning the senior men’s title at the 2024 Irish National Surfing Championships on Tullan Strand near Bundoran for the seventh year in a row.
McDaid, who’s recently recovered from a significant leg injury, finished ahead of the Clare duo of Josh Karbus and Conor Moroney – with Sligo’s Owen Murphy fourth overall.
McDaid then hurried off to Dublin to attend the Paris Olympic Ball in the capital on Saturday night.
Strandhill’s Seamus ‘Shambles’ McGoldrick retained the men’s bodyboard title.
The women’s finals on Sunday, Isabella O’Reilly took the women’s surf title for 2024 with Ruby Knox taking the longboard win.
