Man in court over damage to election posters in North Leitrim



A man is due in court this morning, charged in connection with damaging a number of election posters in North Leitrim.

An investigation is ongoing.

The posters, belonging to Fianna Fail Candidate Edel MacSharry, Sinn Fein’s Martin Kenny and Fine Gaels Frank Feighan were all discovered defaced in recent days.

Some posters has paint thrown over them while sections were cut out of others.

Gardai have confirmed that a man was arrested following a report of criminal damage.

The man, aged in his 50s, was detained at a Garda station in the county yesterday under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He was subsequently charged to appear before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court today.
