Fears allayed over new Coast Guard contract

Fears have been allayed after it was reported that delays have hit the €800m Coast Guard search-and-rescue contract, which includes Sligo-based Rescue 118.

The Sunday Independent is reporting that complaints have been made that the plans to introduce the new service by Bristow Ireland Limited are rushed and undermine confidence.

The new 10-year contract was awarded to Bristow by the Department of Transport in August 2023.

Under the new aviation service contract, Bristow is set to provide a range of essential state services.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Dónal Gilroy says the safety of all crew members and users remains of paramount importance.
