Minister says government ‘committed’ to providing new garda station in Sligo

The Minister for Justice says the government is committed to the provision of a new garda station in Sligo Town.

Minister Charlie Flanagan was replying to a question put forward in the Dáil by Fine Gael Deputy Tony McLoughlin this week requesting an the status of the new station.

A new regional Garda headquarters was announced for Sligo back in October 2015 as part of a major national refurbishment programme.

The current station on the Pearse road has been deemed unfit for purpose according to a report carried out by the Garda Representative Association last year.

However, Deputy McLoughlin says the slow progress is “unacceptable”.

In his reply in the Dail, Minister Flanagan says both his department and the Office of Public Works would provide every assistance possible in building the new station.
