Repairs to crumbling bridge in North Sligo welcomed

A Sligo councillor has welcomed repair works by Sligo County Council to what was a dangerous bridge at the foot of Benbulben in North Sligo.

The bridge, which is believed to have been originally constructed around 80 years ago was essentially a slab of rock which stretched over a stream at Glengalla, close to Luke’s Bridge near Grange.

The bridge had been used by a number of farming families over the years to bring turf home from a local bog and is also along a popular walking trail.

Welcoming the work on the bridge, Independent Councillor Marie Casserly said that it was in such a bad need of repair, it was included in the local mountain rescue team’s safety plan.
