There was delight for the Summerhill Collge under 14 rugby team on Wednesday when the Sligo school captured the Connacht under 14 ‘A’ league title with an 18-5 win against Marist College (Athlone) in Tuam.
It is Summerhill’s first Connacht title in rugby at this grade since 1988.
Despite playing against a strong wind in the first half, Summerhill coped very well with the conditions and Robert O’Kelly-Lynch got in for an intercept try which set the tone. Max Hunter scored the first to two tries just before the interval – as Sumerhill pushed on for victory.
The team is coached by Brian Roche and Joe Walsh.
Summerhill’s Declan Brennan explained to Ocean FM Sport what the win means for the College.
