Coolera/Strandhill to take on Tourlestrane in Sligo SFC final

Coolera/Strandhill produced the result of the day in the Belfry senior football championship semi-finals in Sligo when they recorded a deserved 2-14 to 0-16 win against neighbours and rivals St Mary’s.

Despite losing Peter Laffey to a knee injury early on, Coolera/Strandhill edge most of the key battles with county star Niall Murphy and team captain Kevin Banks influential throughout.

St Mary’s had several goal chances over the hour but didn’t manage to convert any of them – and this proved costly.

John McPartland Jnr’s side will face the four-in-a-row chasing Tourlestrane after they dismantled Shamrock Gaels in the second semi-final on a final scoreline of 2-19 to 0-7.

The holders made a blistering start to Sunday’s contest, and had established a 1-9 to 0-0 lead before Shamrock Gaels got off the mark. Tourlestrane led 2-11 to 0-2 at half-time and never looked back after that.

Their joint-manager spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Cathal Mullaney after the game:

Shamrock Gaels manager John McPartland (Snr) was making no excuses for the one-sided nature of the contest:

The Belfry Sligo SFC final will be played in Markievicz Park on Sunday, October 20th, 2019 – and will be live on Ocean FM Sport.
