The inaugural meeting of the water safety committee of Sligo County Council took place over the weekend.
The group was formed to address water safety issues in the county as the region gears up for a busy tourism season with large numbers expected to engage in staycations this summer.
Sligo/Strandhill Fine Gael Councillor Sinead Maguire says representatives from various interested groups attended the meeting, which covered a number of safety issues in relation to water safety in costa areas.
