St Attracta’s Patrick Hyland wins 3000 metre walk gold



St Attracta’s Community School, Tubbercurry student Patrick Hyland was the winner of the 3000 metre walk at the SIAB Schools’ Track & Field International at Mary Peters Track in Belfast on Saturday.

Hyland, who is a member of Swinford AC has enjoyed a strong 2022 date which included winning silver in the Intermediate Boys 2000 metre walk at the Irish Schools Track & Field finals in May.

Also at the SIAB Schools’ Tract & Field International, St.Columba’s Comprehensive School, Glenties student Fintan Dewhirst produced a strong run to win silver in the 400 metre hurdles in a time of 52.67.

He and Summerhill College student Joe Campbell helped Ireland to win bronze in the 4 x 400 metres relay final.

Darragh Mulrooney, a student at Jesus and Mary Secondary School in Enniscrone finished third in the 3000 metres.

Caoimhe Gallen, St. Columba’s Stranorlar won the Hammer with a best throw of 54m. 28cm.

Joe Campbell, Summerhill College placed in the 400m in a time of 52.42 seconds.

Orna Murphy, Ursuline College, was 8th in the long Jump with a best jump of 5.25 metres.

The SIAB Schools’ Track & Field International sees athletes from from secondary schools across Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales compete in various track and field events.
